New County-wide Land Development Ordinance

As a comprehensive update to existing Ordinance No. 348, which is the "Riverside County Land Use Ordinance," the County is preparing a NEW County-Wide Land Development Ordinance.

Ordinance Background

The existing Land Use Ordinance ("Ordinance") was adopted by Ordinance No. 348 in 1949. This Ordinance has been amended over 4,800 times in about 69 years; however, it has never been comprehensively updated.

The existing Ordinance includes sixty-four articles and 484 sections. The Ordinance provides land use planning and zoning regulations and related functions that implements the County's policy, such as the General Plan policy.

 
 
Land Development Ordiance Goals
  1. Make the Land Use Ordinance easier to understand and use by the general public, as well as staff.
  2. Generalize land use categories.
  3. Generalize land uses
  4. Clarify the processing of applications.
  5. Organize the document in a clear way.

Public Scoping Meetings*: August 13, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. (Riverside) and August 20, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. (Palm Desert)
