Agricultural Preserves and the Williamson Act

Overview of Program

Riverside County participates in the State of California Land Conservation Act agricultural land preservation program. The purpose of the Act is to preserve agricultural and open space lands by discouraging premature and unnecessary conversion to urban uses. Williamson Act contracts are established between the landowner and the County.

CAPTAC Agendas

CAPTAC was formed according to Government Code Section 51239 to advise the Board of Supervisors on the administration of the agricultural preserves in the county per County Resolution Number 84-526, dated December 18, 1984.

The composition of the committee consists (Division IV of the Resolution) of the following (or their designees): Planning Director (Chairperson), Agricultural Commissioner, U.S.D.A Soil Conservation Service, University of California Cooperative Extension, County of Riverside, and County Assessor
