Riverside County Planning Commissioners

Riverside County Planning Commissioners

1st District Planning Commissioner - Carl Bruce Shaffer

Serving Riverside County, First District residents, businesses, and area stakeholders is an honor and privilege. I take this appointed position seriously and will be actively present, representative, and relevant in my service.

I will be accountable, transparent, and committed in conducting thoughtful measured reviews. I will uphold the Planning Commission’s civic responsibility to implement Riverside County’s planning and development policies, plans and regulations. My actions will be grounded considering private property rights, land use compatibility, public amenities, effective infrastructure, along with sustainability of healthy human and natural environments for future generations.

My experience and values have been forged over the past thirty years of private and public service to local, regional and international organizations (i.e. Private Consulting Firms, Department of Interior, Department of Defense, National Conflict Resolution Center, Civilian Expeditionary Work Force Program, Ministry of Defense Advisor Program, as well as, volunteer appointments and or government agency ex-officio membership to a city design review board, a city airport commission, a regional airspace and land use council, and a district citizen advisor board).

These roles and experiences would not have been possible without the support and sacrifice of my wife, children, family and friends.

2nd District Planning Commissioner - Aaron Hake

Aaron Hake is a lifelong resident of Riverside County.  Hake serves as Government Relations Manager for the Riverside County Transportation Commission, where he leads the region’s state and federal policy advocacy for better transportation infrastructure.

Hake’s passion for community development is motivated by the fact that he and his wife Lauralynn are raising their two young sons in Riverside County.  As a founding member and past president of the Pick Group-Young Professionals of Riverside, Hake has devoted enormous energy to combating the Inland Empire’s “brain drain” of young educated professionals, and is committed to developing places that attract and retain a 21st Century workforce and that honor Riverside County’s rich natural resources and history.

Aaron Hake got his start in County leadership as a Norco High School student where he served as Youth Commissioner to Supervisor John Tavaglione.  Since then, Hake earned a Bachelor’s degree in political science and philosophy from American University in Washington, D.C. and a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Southern California.  He is also a graduate of Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Senior Executives in State & Local Government program.

Prior to his service as a County Planning Commissioner, Hake served 4 years on the City of Corona Planning Commission, serving as chairman in 2013.
Aaron Hake concurrently serves as President of the United Way of the Inland Valleys and has held numerous leadership positions with other local nonprofits, including the Corona Rotary Club, Corona-Norco Family YMCA, and Greater Riverside Dollars for Scholars.
Hake is an avid runner of half and full marathons, and practices yoga to clear his mind.
